Waupoos farm is a shining example of servant leadership - people come together for a common purpose, and serve others with humility and love. Since families come up for a vacation for a week at a time in the summer, you have an opportunity to really talk to people. I found that was able to connect with people at campfires, by the pool, sitting at picnic tables, on tractor rides, during nature walks, and so on.

It's amazing - I went to the farm because I wanted to give something back to the community, and yet I received so much in return. Waupoos helped to reinforce my belief that people are not so different after all.

There is a fantastic sense of community that exists at Waupoos - people who have been there cannot wait to go back. The families have helped me to be grateful for what I have and have helped me to discover who I am. In sharing our stories and struggles, I also learned about myself. I gained a sense of independence, as well as the ability to feel comfortable talking in front of groups of people. As I take up new initiatives and become involved in other aspects of community - be it on a local, national or global scale - I know I will rely on the values and lessons I have learned at Waupoos.
