Who We Are
Waupoos is a native word for rabbit. The Waupoos Foundation was
founded in 1975 by Father Fred Magee and friends when they took
over the Oblate family farm on Waupoos Island, near Picton Ontario.
Facilities were later expanded to include a farm located just outside
of Ottawa on Rideau Road. Over 7000 families have enjoyed a respite
with us, and over 25,000 people have used our facilities.
Waupoos' motto is "Pray, Work and Play" and we welcome
everyone who wants to participate in any, or all of these activities.
The families that visit us arrive via many channels including social
services, schools and parishes.

Our Funding
The maintenance and operation of the Waupoos facilities are funded
though the generous donations of many individuals, corporations,
and generous organizations like the Ontario
Trillium Foundation, Ottawa
Community Foundation, and Human
Resources Development Canada who feel that it is important to
provide vacation opportunities to those who might not otherwise
be able to afford one. Private donations are an important source
of funding for Waupoos.
The Future of Waupoos
Requests to use the Waupoos facilities are increasing each year.
More and more families in our community are facing desperate times.
Food banks and soup kitchens have never seen greater demand. Those
who are able to come to Waupoos talk about experiences that are
life changing. They feel a great sense of renewal and relief and
are often connected with individuals who are able to give them real
support.
In order to best serve our families, Waupoos is revitalizing its
heavily demanded services. This includes soliciting greater volunteer
support, renovating facilities, and changing some of our internal
structures so that resident families will be able to focus more
energy on hospitality.
