Women’s Christmas Gala December 6, 2019

By | Fundraising

On December 6th, the 5th Annual Women’s Christmas Gala returned to Waupoos Farm where it began.

As in previous years, women were invited to host a table of their friends, providing table decorations and light snacks for their guests and a dessert for the entire group to sample. The cost to participants; just $20.

Although this event was a bit smaller than the last couple of years, there was no less enthusiasm and the sound of conversations and laughter filled the room.

This event is really about building and sustaining our Waupoos community! Participants included past and present farm residents, host families, volunteers and Waupoos supporters as well as some new friends.

The silent auction table was busy all evening and we are grateful to the individuals and businesses who provided silent auction items. Thanks to everyone’s efforts and participation, over $1600 was raised to support the Farm!

A huge “Thank You to Melina, Laura and friends who organized this gala. Lori and Patsy returned to reprise their role as “elves”, selling tickets and helping with silent auction closing. We could not manage without them!

Melina has announced her retirement from Women’s Gala planning after 6 successful events. Our sincere thanks for all her work to create these popular fundraising events over the past five years!

We Reached our Summer Student Fundraising Goal!

By | Fundraising

In early May, Waupoos launched a fundraising campaign for summer staff after learning that our grant application for summer students had been denied.

The Ottawa Archdiocese provided an initial donation of $5000 and Archbishop Prendergast wrote an article in the Ottawa Sun asking our community to help us raise the necessary funds – and help they did! Over the past two months, individuals and organizations stepped up to provide donations and ensure we could hire the staff necessary to operate our summer vacation program for low-income families. We have been so blessed!

Waupoos Women’s Gala on June 15th brought our summer staff fundraising efforts to a successful close with over $2000 raised on that evening!

Our summer students have been hired! We are so grateful for the generous support of all those who helped to ensure families would be able to enjoy a week at Waupoos this summer.  My God bless all for their kindness and generosity.

Fundraising for Summer Students 2018

By | Fundraising

Waupoos Farm provides a summer program for low-income families in July and August with a goal to provide a safe and welcoming community environment where families in need can find rest, fellowship, and hope. Waupoos has enjoyed Canada Summer Jobs funding to hire four summer students every year since the inception of that program. This year, a new attestation was added to the CSJ grant application. In good conscience, Waupoos could not agree to the required attestation that our core mandate or our students’ job descriptions support abortion.

As a Christian organization, Waupoos has maintained a long-standing policy of welcoming visitors from all backgrounds and walks of life. Waupoos has not, does not, and will not discriminate against families or individuals on any basis.

The principal requirement for a family to apply and stay at Waupoos is to meet Statistics Canada’s Low-Income definition. Our commitment to serving families in a non-discriminatory manner is a fruit of our Christian beliefs, identity, spirituality, and practices, which affirm the dignity and sanctity of all persons.

With summer being the peak season of the year at Waupoos, our students play an indispensable role. These students shoulder responsibility for coordinating and delivering the farm’s programming for visiting families, and for helping to ensure that families feel supported and are able to create lasting memories during their time at Waupoos. We’ve been able to provide students with good jobs, great skills, and amazing life experiences. All while supporting families in need.

With our access to CSJ funding having been denied this year, we have begun fundraising efforts in order to hire summer staff. We need your help. If you have the means to assist, please consider making a donation.   https://waupoos.com/donate/

We are most grateful for the support of the Ottawa Archdiocese and Archbishop Prendergast.  Learn more:
